V is for Vanilla Valentines!

Today we made Vanilla Valentines.

Josiah loves cooking of any kind. So, we finished the letter V by making a snack. First, he got out some graham crackers. He put a paper heart on top of each cracker. He then shook some powdered sugar on top of the cracker & hearts.

He then used tweezers to pull the hearts off of each cracker. He was so excited to see that the powder had left a heart on each cracker. He then shared his Vanilla crackers with me & Dustin. The sharing part is how it becomes a Valentine.

These were Very good Vanilla Valentines.

U is for Umbrella!

We finished the letter U today by making Umbrella art.

I taught Josiah what a semi-circle is & he practiced his scissor skills by cutting one out.

He then glued a cane & the semi-circle onto a piece of paper to make the Umbrella.

After his Umbrella was put together, he decorated it with stripes & added rain.

At one point he stopped drawing raindrops & wanted to draw ovals. I guess that's the boy in him. He was very proud of his oval raindrops around his Umbrella!

T is for Turtle!

Today we finished the letter T. Well...in case you didn't know, T is for Turtle!

Josiah used his Turtle sponge to decorate his Turtle shell.

He then used Tape to add his head & legs. What a Terrific Turtle!

S is for Spider Snacks!

Today was our last day working with the letter S. On the last day learning a letter, we do a special craft or snack to go along with that letter. Well, today ended up being one of our favorites. We made Spider Snacks!

All summer I have been doing my Kindergarten reading program with Josiah, even though he's only 4, & he is now reading really well. Well, today it paid off. I laid the recipe sheet down & he read the entire thing without ANY help.

We began by gathering all of the ingredients: Jumbo Marshmallows, Pretzel Sticks & Hershey bars (my favorite). He then followed the instructions. 1) Stick 8 pretzels in the marshmallow. So, he counted 8 pretzel sticks & did just that.

Once he had the spiders put together, he went to his recipe sheet & checked off that first bit of instruction.

2) Top with chocolate. He went over to the microwave & heated the Hershey bars.

He then poured the chocolate over the marshmallow so he could have a brown spider. He made a spider for himself, one for me & one for his Dad.

The finished product looks amazing!!!

3) Cool and munch. Boy did we enjoy munching those Spider Snacks! Look at the last picture of Josiah. He put the chocolate covered marshmallow in his mouth, closed his eyes & let out a loud "Mmmmm!"

They were Spectacular Spider Snacks!!

R is for Rainbows!

Today was the last day learning the letter R. We celebrated by making 2 Rainbows.

First, we made a "Josiah Rainbow." This Rainbow was all about him. It has sections for: "My Favorite Color, Color of My Eyes, Color of My Skin, Color of My Hair, Color of My Favorite Food & A Picture of Me!" He enjoyed making this Rainbow.

The 2nd Rainbow Josiah made was to practice his cutting skills. I had 3 patterns of arches in different sizes. He cut the arches out & then glued them together. Once all 3 were glued together he cut the final arch out of the bottom, creating a Rainbow. He was REALLY proud of this one because he cut it out all by himself.

These 2 Rainbows are now hanging on our Refrigerator. Josiah is very proud.

Family Fun at the Pool!

Today has been ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! We had a few hours before Dustin had to head off to work & decided to go to the pool in Edmonds to swim together.

We had such a great time swimming as a family. We worked on some of Josiah's swimming lesson skills & just simply played. After a while Josiah spotted the diving board. He said, "Mommy...Daddy...can I go walk the plank?" Ha! We got such a laugh out of that. He'd never seen a diving board before because his pool doesn't have one. So, we all went & took turns "walking the plank." This was Josiah's first time going off of a diving board. One time, Josiah saw me dive off the plank & thought he'd give it a shot. He went belly first. HA! We had a great day having family fun at the pool!

Q is for Q-Tip Painting!

Q is the letter of the week. Since Josiah loves to paint so much, I thought we'd complete this letter by doing some painting using Q-Tips as the brush.

Josiah chose the colors for his palette & went to work. He loved Q-Tip painting!

P is for Purple Popsicles!

P is for Purple Popsicles! This was the activity I chose for the letter P. I got the popsicle molds a few months back. We kept it a secret from Josiah until he learned P.

He was thrilled to get to make his own popsicles. He poured the juice into the molds himself & then placed them in the freezer.

Once the popsicles were frozen, he flew his Purple Popsicle Rocket all around the kitchen. Once we pulled it from the mold, he Proudly ate his Purple Popsicle!
